As a result of a major bug in Sigma’s ultimate ability that enables him to fly continuously, Blizzard has taken action by disabling Sigma in Overwatch 2’s ranked mode. Blizzard has opted to temporarily remove Sigma from Overwatch’s ranked mode following the discovery of a game-breaking bug that allows the character to fly infinitely when using his ultimate ability.

The bug was detected in the recent mid-season update of Overwatch, which included changes to hero abilities, new hero options, and balance adjustments. One of the newly added hero options is believed to have caused the bug.

Game Director for Overwatch, Aaron Keller, took to his Twitter to announce that “due to a bug caused by our recent patch, we’re disabling Sigma temporarily in Competitive modes”.

How does the bug work?

According to a community manager on the Blizzard forums, the hero can still be played in unranked and Arcade modes despite being temporarily removed from ranked mode.

“We are disabling Sigma from Competitive Play, but you can still use him in Unranked and Arcade modes including the new Starwatch: Galactic Rescue Mode,” the manager said.

Curious about how the bug works? Well, here’s the scoop: in the latest Overwatch 2 patch, Sigma’s ult will automatically cast if it reaches its full duration. However, if Sigma is looking at a skybox or an invalid surface, he’ll be trapped in his ultimate animation and continue flying infinitely until he meets his demise.

To trigger the bug, Sigma’s ult must have previously reached its full duration, requiring the use of two ultimates. While flying, Sigma is unable to use any abilities other than his primary fire, rendering him vulnerable.

Which controllers does Overwatch 2 support?

For people looking to play Overwatch 2 with a controller, they will find themselves lucky: the game allows controllers. In Overwatch 2’s options menu, players can find controller-specific settings that will allow them to adjust the layout exactly how they prefer.

But not every controller in the market will support Blizzard’s FPS title. If players want to play Overwatch 2 with a controller, it’s best to use an official Xbox Series X|S controller. Since Xbox and Windows work belongs to the same ecosystem, pairing the controller with a PC is pretty easy.

As soon as the PC detects the controller and players press a button, the game’s interface will automatically swap to button prompts. It’s unknown if Overwatch 2 officially supports XInput, an app that works with Windows and detects Xbox controllers automatically.

The game also works with modern PlayStation controllers and third-party PC controllers, but players will be required to make some adjustments. Once players attach a wired PlayStation 4 DualShock controller, Overwatch 2 will automatically recognize it, but might not show PS-specific button inputs. Players will still be able to use a PS4 DualShock, but they will have to figure out which button does what or re-map them.
