Insights from Industry Analysts

Nintendo expert Dr. Serkan Toto from Kantan Games revealed his predictions for 2024 to GamesIndustry.biz. He confirmed the earlier rumors about a new Switch Pro and added that the Switch 2 might also arrive in 2024. Discussing prices, he said, “I think the new device will come out next year and cost around $400.”

Toto also suggested that game prices might go up, maybe hitting $70. The prediction indicates that the new system will bring some improvements but will mostly be like an upgraded version of the current Switch. Toto highlighted how it’s crucial to keep the portability aspect, especially since Pokémon is linked with handheld gaming.

Piers Harding-Rolls, an analyst from Ampere Analysis, shared thoughts on the console market. He expects a slight increase, mostly because of the potential release of a new Nintendo console, probably the Switch 2, by the end of the year.

Strengthening Speculations

Toto and Harding-Rolls’ predictions add to the growing idea that a new Nintendo Switch is coming soon. Rumors started getting attention in 2023 when a demo showing possible hardware features was apparently shown to developers at Gamescom. Even though Nintendo keeps saying there’s no Switch 2, people keep talking about it, discussing things like DLSS capabilities and more.

If the Switch 2 follows the pattern of being more of an upgrade than a big change, it might be like how the Nintendo 3DS built on the success of the DS. The 3DS had better hardware, a 3D screen, and similar abilities. One important question still lingers: will it let you play older games? That’s something Nintendo fans are really hoping for.

We don’t know when Nintendo will show their new console, but fans might get clues in the usual February Direct, where the company talks about the year ahead. Right now, the current Switch is still going strong, with new things like a remastered Paper Mario Thousand-Year Door and a fresh Princess Peach game on the way. People are getting more and more excited about the Switch 2, especially since Nintendo hasn’t spilled the beans yet, leaving fans eager for what’s next in handheld gaming.
