Recap From Previous Chapter

Ippo gears up to leave Mexico after a grueling war there. He continued having an odd sense of emptiness, but it wasn’t until he got to his town and saw his pals that he understood that he was really missing home. Ippo first encounters his dog when he arrives in his town and is genuinely pleased to be back. Ippo’s pals make fun of him, claiming that since Ane was the first person he met, he obviously came back early to meet her. Ippo responds, however, that he took so much heat from the fight in Mexico that he had to get it fixed first. He was referring to his visit to his master during their fight as a rest stop following the actual combat.

The way Ippo’s pals perceive “managing the heat” (if you know what I mean). Even Ane responds that if he had asked her, she would have reduced his agitation. Ippo has a great appetite, and anything other than ordinary Japanese food would affect him, so all of his buddies began laughing and speculating that it was probably spicy Mexican food that was to blame.

They are made to stop laughing by Ane’s death glare, and they agree among themselves never to make fun of Ippo in her presence again. Ippo then pulls out the souvenirs from Mexico that he had brought for everyone, and once more they are all masks. He also provides Ane with a mask, and she is happy to wear it while others are irritated. So Ippo brings his buddies to his house so they can meet his mother. While preparing food for everyone, she is perplexed by their masks. Ippo’s master has resumed training in the interim. Although he was wearing the mask incorrectly, covering his eyes, all of his students initially thought he had gone nuts; nevertheless, he subsequently explains that it was a training tactic.

He uses the Wiarlee Ricardo match as an example to emphasize the value of wildness in a fight. He wants to train with his eyes covered since fighting requires more than just vision; one must also be able to feel the presence of an opponent. He requests that his two students put on their own masks and cover their eyes.
