What is Puget – how to fix in Altus and Modern Warfare 2?

Modern Warfare 2 connection failed Puget – Altus error is a very common error and pops up when you try to launch the game. The error message reads the following:

  • Connection Failed
  • Unable to access online services. [Reason: PUGET – ALTUS]

This error means that there can be two different problems. This can be either a client-side issue or a server-side problem. If it’s really customer-side you can fix it easily. However, if it’s server-side, there’s nothing you can do. Here are all the possible fixes:

  • Check the server status by visiting the Activision Online Services page.
  • Restart your router
  • Cycle by unplugging your gaming console, pressing and pressing the power button for 10 seconds, waiting for about two minutes, and then turning it back on. 
  • Change the DNS Servers
  • Here’s how you change the DNS server. The best server for gaming is usually Google’s. The servers are primary – 8.8.8.8.8 and secondary – 8.8.4.4. 

Xbox:

  • Click the Guide button 
  • Go to All Settings and Network > Network settings
  • Head to Advanced settings  and DNS Settings 
  • Go to the manual and input Google DNS addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 into the Primary and Secondary fields and restart the console.

PC:

  • Go to Settings and Network & Internet 
  • Change adapter options and select network, right-click and select Properties 
  • Now click on Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and go to Properties 
  • Enter Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 
  • Restart your PC 

PS5:

  • Go to Network in Settings and set up internet connection 
  • Now select ‘Set up manually’ and choose Wi-Fi or LAN 
  • Under DNS Settings, enter primary DNS as 8.8.8.8 and secondary DNS as 8.8.4.4
