League of Legends’ 2023 Mid-Season Invitational is just a few weeks away, but there are still some questions that fans have about the tournament. One question concerned Yuumi and Milio, two well-known champions, and whether or not teams would be able to select them during the competition. The Magical Cat and the Gentle Flame will both be disabled at MSI, according to a brief statement released by Riot Games today. League of legends tournament MSI 2023 Riot confirms 2 top supports will be disabled:

The developer teams have been working diligently to balance out Yuumi’s most recent mid-scope update. Riot, however, has decided that she isn’t yet prepared for a stage play in light of recent changes to the champion. The devs have chosen to keep her on hold until they are certain of her position among the meta supports rather than releasing a “untuned and disruptive champion” into the MSI ecosystem.

Riot’s president of esports, John Needham, detailed the organization’s future plans for its overall esports ecosystem in a lengthy blog post today. He talked about the significant distinction between traditional sports and esports in one section, stating that while the former can rely on live event revenue from tickets, concessions, and merchandise, esports fans who are watching from around the world prefer virtual settings far more.

Milio, on the other hand, is behind schedule due to a much more obvious reason. He hasn’t been enabled in competitive play yet, and per the rules, a champion who hasn’t taken part in the playoffs for all four major regions is ineligible to play in the next international tournament.

Riot wants to offer team-specific versions of these passes so that supporters can have an unmatched level of interaction with their favourite teams, including new team gear, in-game items, and perhaps even exclusive team channels where fans can talk to the players themselves.

Milio is expected to join the cast of champions for MSI in 2023, the 2023 World Championship, and the 2023 Summer Split across all regions. By that time, Yuumi should have her mid-scope update planned out and balanced, which would enable her to possibly attend the competition as well. Riot will also be bringing special in-game cameras, cameras around the venue, digital collectibles, and even having fan messages appear on the broadcast when this pass is extended to the competitive VALORANT scene in 2024. In general, this new pass will bring viewers closer to the action than ever before, even if they watch it from the comfort of their own homes.
