Unfortunately, League of Legends frequently experiences the “trouble fetching information” bug. For no apparent reason, the bug prevents players from joining the queue for unranked and normal games. “Trouble fetching information for this player,” reads the error message (Error: 5C). If this continues, affected players should log out and back in. However, the error message frequently returns even after players reset the game.

Players claim that the problem persists even after restarting their client. Some Reddit users have discovered that restarting their router fixes the problem, though. There is no regional restriction on this bug, and Riot support does not currently have an official fix for error 5C. Although it’s not entirely clear why the error even arises in the first place, there are a number of ways to fix it.

The bug appears to be connected to your internet connection in some way. Here are four methods you can try to resolve the “trouble fetching information for this player” error, though it’s unclear why they work. For some players, restarting your internet router appears to be effective. Others find success by first logging in with a different account, then returning with their original ID. Another option is to connect to the client using a hotspot on your mobile device. Players can attempt using the Hextech Repair Tool to resolve the problem if all else fails. This will probably fix the bug.

The tool can be downloaded from the Riot support website. Both Windows and Mac versions of this tool are available. Along with Error 5C, this tool is excellent for quick reinstallations or patch updates, managing your firewall, and displaying known issues in your area.

Raise a ticket with League of Legends Support describing your problems and any workarounds you tried using the repair tool if you’re still experiencing League of Legends error 5C. If you have access to more than one League account, sign in to the secondary account before returning to the primary account. For whatever reason, this frequently succeeds.

Check the “Gather System & LoL Logs” box in the Hextech Repair Tool, then attach the tool’s.zip folder to your ticket to help Riot support understand the problem better. Use League’s repair tool if all else fails, and the error message should be automatically fixed. Users of Windows and macOS can use the repair tool, which is available here. It should only be used as a last resort because the repair procedure might take some time.
