The new League of Legends game mode 2v2v2v2 will feature almost everything we could have ever imagined, including augmentations, returning items like the Hextech Gunblade, and sassy cameos. Unfortunately, one requested feature won’t be present in the new game mode this time, but Riot Games will add it when the mode re-emerges.
League players have been rushing to the PBE to try out the 2v2v2v2 mode because it will be officially released on July 20 across the globe. The new mode won’t be available as a choice for custom games, however, as players discovered while testing the feature and informed everyone of it in a post on Reddit on July 15. You will only be able to queue up with one additional player when the 2v2v2v2 mode launches later this week. There will only be room for one friend in the arena with you, and the other pairs in the competition will all be strangers.
In an explanation of the development of the game mode, Meddler wrote in a Reddit comment, “At this point, the 2v2v2v2 mode won’t just be a prototype. It should be fairly refined, which is why I mentioned having a new map for it as an example rather than just repurposing an existing map like we were doing during initial prototyping.
I’m glad that the new game mode will give players the option to create their matches, but this game mode, which is supposed to be all about friends having the time of their lives and finally getting to play against one another, should have been included in the game from the beginning.
