Killer Pietro continues with a start that delves deep into Park Sangdo’s troubled past. In a lengthy flashback, we learn that Sangdo was the victim of brutal bullying as a kid. His tormentors would constantly mock and humiliate him. Sangdo, while suffering through this assault, entertained violent ideas of revenge but lacked the ability and bravery to carry them out.

The important moment of the flashback involves Sangdo and the main bully. When Sangdo is backed into a corner, he is offered a gamble that could mean the difference between life and death, a proposal that shocks his heart and triggers an incredible response.

Sangdo’s legs begin to move of their own accord when his flight-or-fight response kicks in. This unexpected bodily response shocks Sangdo, who knows that betting his life has unlocked a latent source of strength and agency.

Sangdo realizes that the largest stakes bets consistently evoke this feeling of mastery and authority in him. He feels a rush of dopamine, serotonin, and adrenaline, all of which contribute to a neurochemical high.

The rush of winning and proving one’s might is intoxicating, and Sangdo soon finds himself addicted to making bets. He develops into a shrewd bettor over time, convinced that he is invincible under pressure. This historical perspective sheds light on where Sangdo’s ruthlessness and willingness to take risks came from.

The action returns to the present day, when Sangdo’s antagonist recklessly puts the lives of the kidnapped children in a suitcase bomb. According to Sangdo, President Choi Eunchang’s son is among the hostages, and if the grenade goes off, they will all die.

Sangdo warns his opponent that he must kneel or die. But in a surprising turn of events, Park ambushes Sangdo and takes custody of the live grenade from him. If Sangdo makes a move, Park will detonate the grenade and blow his head off, so he shoves the grenade in his mouth and pins the trigger.
