By coordinating their assaults, the two are hoping to turn the tide of the battle in their favor. Their combined efforts should pose a serious threat to No. 9’s supremacy, even though they probably won’t win right away.

Previously in Chapter 108

In the beginning of Chapter 108, Kafka is fighting the new shape of No. 9. Kafka loses an arm and a leg in the harsh early assaults, but he recovers them fast. He felt increasingly overwhelmed as the conflict progressed, like facing No. 9 and No. 2 at the same time.

Despite Kafka’s best efforts, his modified combat technique isn’t enough to defeat No. 9. No. 9 is learning Kafka’s moves, thus his advantage is dwindling as the fight continues. After a series of brutal hits, Kafka knows he must use his new techniques at any cost (the chapter ends with this realization).

As Konomi Okonogi notes in Chapter 108, Kafka is rapidly losing both time and energy. But in a flashback, Soshiro Hoshina sees a more pressing problem: Kafka could lose the ability to transform back into a human if he stays in his Kaiju form for too long. Regardless, Kafka remained resolute in his goal of ending the conflict according to his own terms, so he chose to fight.
