If the Split Two Playoffs are any indication, the 2023 ALGS Championship may be the most competitive competition ever. It will also have a new location from what was initially announced earlier this year, as was announced today. The ALGS Championship will now take place from September 6 through September 10 in Birmingham, UK, as opposed to London, where all three ALGS LANs were previously scheduled to occur in 2023.

The announcement came after the Split 2 Playoffs, which were held last weekend at the Copperbox Arena in London, the same venue and location as the Split 1 Playoffs earlier this month. In September, the ALGS Championship will be held in a new location in the United Kingdom:

Teams that qualified via their results in the Split One and Split Two Playoffs LAN earlier this year will compete in the ALGS Championship, likely seeking a bigger, better venue than the Copper Box Arena in London has to offer. To complete the 40 teams competing in the final ALGS event of the season, the competition will also include two teams from each region that qualified via a Last Chance Qualifier tournament.

At the ALGS Championship, where the $2 million prize pool replaces the $1 million prize pool from the two LANs earlier in the year, the stakes are doubled. Additionally, there’s a chance that the prize pool will increase if EA and Respawn decide to include crowdfunding initiatives in the prize pool, such as allocating a portion of game cosmetics sales to the Championship prize pool.

DarkZero, who were recently crowned Split Two champions and are the defending ALGS Champions, and TSM, who won the Split One Playoffs and came agonizingly close to repeating the feat in Split Two by finishing second to DarkZero, will be the event’s headliners.

Although the initial 30 teams for the competition are already confirmed, the full field won’t be determined until after the LCQs. As a result, the action for the ALGS Championship officially starts this weekend, when teams from all over the world compete in the LCQ for a chance to win one of the last spots in the event.
