Team Liquid has triumphed in the World of Warcraft Race to World First for the first time in almost three years. The guild’s victory today marks its first triumph since joining Liquid in January 2022. In one of WoW’s more competitive races in recent memory, Liquid persevered through 114 pulls and a reduced sleep schedule before the raid’s final day to take first place in the world.
Everyone on the team had top-tier equipment and best-in-slot items when it came time to face the final boss. Scalecommander Sarkareth, the raid’s final boss, presents an expectedly difficult challenge. Before Liquid was able to defeat him, 114 attempts and even off-stream practice were made. The teams had until last Tuesday to complete the race for Aberrus, which involved defeating all nine bosses in the second raid of Dragonflight on Mythic difficulty. From the halfway point on, Liquid began to put up an impressive performance, becoming the first to defeat the final five of those bosses. Holy Priest, Arcane Mage, Devastation Evoker, and Demonology Warlock were the four specs Liquid doubled up on during this fight, with Ksp and Imfiredup, the team’s two Arcane Mages, topping the kill charts.
Most notably, only one class—Hunter—was absent from Liquid’s lineup for the record-breaking kill. Hunters were used by Liquid to defeat every other boss during the raid, and they even played a role in the team’s early progress against Sarkareth, but they were switched out for other speculators halfway through their encounter with the final boss. After Kingfly was absent for the kill on Echo of Neltharion, the team decided to re-incorporate him into the lineup for Sarkareth. However, Liquid had no problems with DPS in the final battle because they managed to kill the boss even with two players down at the time.
