One of the most terrifying characters in Apex Legends is Revenant, and when season 18 debuts, he’ll get even scarier. In a video released in collaboration with Apex content creator iiTzTimmy today, it is revealed that The Synthetic Nightmare is getting a makeover that will better align him with his assassin past. Revenant’s new equipment and updated versions of all his skills are shown in the video. He can now highlight enemies with his passive ability, pounce with his tactical ability, and gain additional damage mitigation with his ultimate.
This contrasts the previous supernatural undertones in his toolkit, leaning instead towards blatant violence and aggression in his abilities. According to game designer for Apex, Evan Funnell, Assassin’s Instinct allows him to “see nearby enemies that are low on health,” and if the dummy takes down an enemy himself, he will mark his victim for the rest of his team. For pursuing Revenant’s victims, his tactic, Shadow Pounce, works wonders. According to Funnell, he can close the distance between himself and his prey by using Shadow Pounce, which allows him to unleash “a powerful leap forward.” Holding it extends its range of motion. It can be used by players during chases or as a jump into a wall climb.
Revenant’s new ultimate, Forged Shadows, provides damage mitigation to round out his toolkit. Funnell claims that this results in a “shroud of shadows around him that protects him from direct incoming damage,” including bullets, melee blows, and explosions, but not area-of-effect harm.
This appears to function as a base shield with 75 HP, providing Revenant with some extra protection while he pursues his prey. While the ultimate is active, Revenant’s Forged Shadows recharge over time, with a base duration of about 25 seconds. When an enemy is defeated, his shadows are restored, and the ultimate’s duration is increased. Taking damage will halt the regeneration process. The cooldown on his Shadow Pounce will also be reset if an enemy is knocked down while his ultimate is active.
His previous Silence and Death Totem are effectively destroyed by Revenant’s new kit. The aggressive assassin archetype appears to be Respawn’s preference instead, and the new simulacrum has more aggression than enough to go around.
