Two of Rockstar Games’ flagship games, dubbed GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, have achieved new milestones in terms of sales numbers. As per the latest quarterly financial results report by Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive, Red Dead Redemption 2 has managed to sell more than 50 million copies across the globe.

RDR2 also managed to be the number-one-selling game on Steam in the latest quarter, as well as the third-highest-selling game in 2022. This new milestone has taken the Red Dead series’ overall sales record to over 70 million. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said the game’s performance is something beyond their expectations.

A major reason Take-Two cited for the success of the game was that RDR2 achieved this feat thanks to the release of the Red Dead Onlin’s holiday release. The new release tried to make the playing experience more fresh than ever before. The parent company expects the game to sell even more copies in the coming days.

Speaking of GTA V, Take-Two stated that the game has sold over 175 million copies since its release. Zelnick, while speaking to IGN, said that the recent leaks about the upcoming GTA VI did not affect the overall sales performance of the game.

Zelnick admitted that the leak was however personally and emotionally taxing for his team. “We take leaks very seriously indeed, and they disappoint all of us, it’s really frustrating and upsetting to the team,” Zelnick said. “However, as a business matter, we’re not affected. But as a personal matter and an emotional matter, our teams are affected.”

Rockstar shuts Red Dead online to focus on GTA VI

Rockstar is shifting all its focus on GTA 6 as its development continues to catch the pace. The company previously bid adieu to Red Dead Online with an update. Despite GTA 6’s being long away from launch and lack of information apart from a confirmation of its development going off officially, it looks like the developers are starting to go big with the production.

Previously, the company rolled out an update in GTA 5 and GTA Online, thanking all the 5101 developers who were involved in the development of the blockbuster game. Fans quickly reacted and took the ‘thank you’ note as a hint that teams are focusing on GTA 6.

One week later, a similar update was pushed for Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online, sparking more speculations. The Red Dead patch introduced an option to view the game’s credits from the pause menu. Upon accessing the credits this way, players will be able to see a new message.

Fans are eagerly waiting for Rockstar to announce the next installment in the GTA franchise. While many details have already been confirmed, it remains to be seen how the developers implement the new mechanics.
