Grand Theft Auto 5 is undoubtedly the most successful game from the house of Rockstar. The game made over a billion dollars in just three days. Since 2013, Rockstar has generated heavy revenue from GTA 5, and that is one reason why fans are barely hearing about the next entry in the franchise. GTA Online has maintained a steady fan base, which has provided the game publisher with a lot of money.

GTA Online is still churning out profit from its Shark Cards, which offers players currency within the game. To keep players hooked, Rockstar adds new features and missions to the game at regular intervals. Several roleplaying communities have developed around GTA Online, getting attention from famous streamers like Moist Cr1TiKal and xQc. But that success doesn’t mean Rockstar allows for cross-play.

Cross-play and cross-gen compatibility are common features in games launched recently. In contrast, GTA Online was released a month after the game, when cross-play wasn’t common. After Fortnite and Rocket League added cross-play in 2018, many other games did the same.

Is there cross-play in GTA Online?

For the current version of GTA 5, there is no cross-platform. People with Xbox cannot play with others players using a PlayStation or PC, and they cannot play with their friends on a PlayStation 5 if they own a PlayStation 4. But, since all PC servers are the same, people can play with other PC players no matter where they bought GTA 5 from.

Will Grand Theft Auto 5 get cross-play?

Players shouldn’t keep their hopes high for any cross-platform play in the future. GTA Online has witnessed several updates over the years, but none added cross-play. Rockstar recently announced that they would put a halt on Red Dead Online updates, so it’s clear that they are focusing on Grand Theft Auto 6, which will be the first priority for the players.

A feature like cross-play can eat up time to program and test to make sure it works seamlessly. Later, it takes time to fix any unforeseen bugs the players come across.
