As Team Vitality was facing Global Esports at the VCT 2023 LOCK/IN Sao Paulo, it was a historic day for Indian esports as this was the first time ever that South Asia had been represented in an international competition. Both teams left the event with rosters that were largely new, with Vitality having spent a little more time organising things. Global Esports was not able to afford this luxury because all of its players had only recently met in Brazil, just before the competition. The best-of-three series lived up to the hype and came down to the edge, ending with a score of “2-1” in favour of the French organisation Vitality, who will now face the Argentinean organisation Leviatán in the next round. In terms of Global Esports, the South Asian representatives gave a powerful showing that demonstrated they have what it takes to compete against the best teams from around the globe. Sadly, they were eliminated from the competition as a result of the defeat.

Team Vitality ultimately triumphs in the VCT 2023 LOCK/IN Sao Paulo match despite a valiant effort from Global Esports

Although Team Vitality demonstrated that they were the superior team tonight, it was an emotional rollercoaster for everyone who was supporting Global Esports. Nevertheless, the hype and support were certainly worthwhile.

1st Map

The team appeared to be attempting to rush things with their uncontrolled aggressive manoeuvres on their own map choice, Split, which made things fairly difficult for Global Esports to begin with. As the game continued to elude them with each round that went by, the overall effect of this start was bad. Karel “Twisten” Aenbrener, 19, completely destroyed GE with a masterful display on Jett, securing 23 frags and earning an ACS (Average Combat Score) of 330.

When it came to GE, Jordan “AYRIN” was required to do a lot of the grunt work, but he was limited in what he could accomplish because of his duties as shot caller and fragger. Global Esports left disappointed with a “13-4” loss after failing to escape the hole they had created for themselves as a result of shoddy early rounds.

2nd Map

Global Esports showed off an amazing capacity for developing cunning pistol rounds as hopes dwindled, but Vitality had already made clear that Sheriff posed a danger in the anti-eco rounds. GE began to play with a sense of rhythm, to use more utility, and to set up marginally better trades as the situation changed on Pearl. In addition, they prevailed in both anti-eco matches, building a remarkable winning streak round by round.

Vitality made sure that every moment was full of suspense and turned into an absolute nail-biter whenever they were in the company of sheriffs or Twisten was having a good run. It was no simple walk in the park. However, this time GE rose to the occasion, with AYRIN taking a backseat and the trio of Cahya “Monyet” Nugraha, Kim “texture” Na-ra, and Ganesh “SkRossi” Gangadhar putting on a strong performance to achieve a crucial “13-9” victory.

3rd Map

Global Esports appeared to be in good spirits and prepared to compete in the championship match on the newest Valorant level, Lotus. The pistol and anti-eco rounds were once more neatly positioned by the side, but Vitality just put on better performance, generally keeping one step ahead. The agent makeup also leaned slightly in favour of Vitality, with the new agent Harbor making a difference in a number of executions thanks to the additional tool at his disposal.

Finally, Vitality emerged victorious once more, this time by a score of “13-6,” knocking Global Esports out of the competition and advancing to the next round. Overall, Global Esports was able to put on a respectable showing while also demonstrating that they have a lot of room for improvement and can compete favourably with the majority of franchised teams with more regular team practise. The VCT 2023: Pacific League, which is set to run from March 26 through May 28 in Seoul, South Korea, will be their next opportunity to be seen in action.
