A newly unveiled competitive and quickplay mode is leading the charge in the roadmap for Overwatch 2, which has revealed a variety of exciting gameplay changes for the upcoming seasons. According to a May 16 interview with Overwatch’s director Aaron Keller and producer Jared Neuss, the new mode, dubbed Flashpoint, will debut in the upcoming seasons and be positioned alongside the Control, Push, and Escort modes.

Just two seasons after Lifeweaver’s roster addition, the new core game mode will be accompanied by a new support hero, strengthening the healer-heavy category. The developers will also add two new maps to the rotation, including ones with settings in Gothenburg and India. Competitive matches and quick play will also include these.

The news coincides with information that OW2 will get a revamped PvE mode, which players found to be quite disappointing. Seasonal events will now include PvE components in place of PvE as we previously knew it. The creators shed light on additional upcoming projects as well, giving us a preview of the changes to come up until the end of season seven. Fans can expect updates to Sombra and Roadhog in particular during the massive update.
On June 13, 2023, season five will debut and will feature several cinematic and narrative-based elements, whereas season six appears to be more focused on gameplay and meta changes. Overwatch PvE is no longer a priority, giving developers more time to work on the numerous bugs that affect servers every season. There is no longer any justification for not fixing the problems that the community has encountered and which have ruined gameplay.
Overwatch 2’s first season laid the groundwork for something much bigger, especially once the PVE co-op mode launches the following year. Blizzard gave me and a few other press people a sneak preview of some of the new content for the upcoming seasons in terms of PVP. Unfortunately, I can’t go into any specifics. Please excuse me for having to be so evasive about what I saw. I can only say that if you’re an Overwatch fan, you have a tonne of exciting things to look forward to shortly.
