Hiring a specialist is the obvious first step in this situation. There are many locations on the map where you can find a specialist to join your team, so look for the person you want to bring along, fly close to them, and make the hire. You should consult our NPC locations guide and hire one of the eight at the following locations because not all NPCs are Specialists:

  • Munitions Expert: At Breakwater Bay
  • Longshot: On the coast east of Citadel
  • Garrison: southwest of Frenzy Fields on an island
  • Polar Patroller: NE of Anvil Square
  • Sludge: To the southwest of Steamy Springs
  • Remedy: Between the substantial petrol station and Slappy Shores, at a small castle

Holding the left-directional button on the controller while choosing one of the options at the top of the screen will allow you to issue commands to your NPC followers. They can be instructed to stop, follow you, or move in a certain direction. You can complete the quest and earn experience by using any of these commands. After completing the quest, you will have a friend who can defend you in a gunfight and possibly even give you extra benefits like ammo or health regeneration.

Once you’ve added a specialist to your squad, look in the top left corner of your UI, just below your name and health bar, for a button that you can press to display a command menu. The button is different on each platform, but it always accomplishes the same task.

You can now instruct your hired expert to wait, follow, or move to a location with that command menu open. You can even use this technique to ask them to revive you if you’ve been knocked out. Additionally, you can choose any of the options and it will immediately finish if your main objective is to complete the Spring Breakout Event challenge.
