However, in another set of leaks from internal game files, it appears that fans may get an early glimpse of some concepts of her abilities. The Shornful Revenant is still set for an early 2023 release, according to Valve’s announcement at The International 2022 last October, though this is the first real information we’ve gotten since thanks to DOTA_DM on Telegram.

All of the game’s files range from sketches, concept art, or straight-up memes using placeholder imagery in terms of “stick_em_up” capability. In terms of filenames, they’re all labeled as bird_samurai, zombies_mother, or gunslinger—many of the gunslinger placeholder imagery are from the gyrocopter’s capabilities, such as a rocket barrage or homing missile. There’s not a lot of data shown in this leak, but the names of some moves point to possible concepts for some of Muerta’s abilities.

For example, Fan the Hammer likely means Muerta will unload a full six-shooter salvo or two into a target, while Reload is pretty self-explanatory. Powered Rounds should provide some sort of power to his shots, while Bullets of Hell can hit enemies from a greater distance at the cost of damage – the same can be said of Trickshot. As of now, not much is known about his abilities. We can assume that he is a ranged-attack character because he has a flintlock pistol, but this is not necessarily the case. Something changes happening with Muerta in the trailer. Perhaps this is showing some of his abilities.

The hero in the old Reddit leak is codenamed Corpse Mother. It seems to be based on what we know about Muerta. This isn’t the first major Dota leak to occur over the past week, with several items being discovered in the game’s files that could be the next major patch. And if these leaked Muerta abilities are also real, this new Dota 2 hero could also be added in an upcoming patch — alongside that last hero, Primal Beast, which was also released last February.

Importantly, the heroes on the list have a good history of forecastability. Primal Beast and Hoodwink are mentioned, and their abilities partially match those of the final release. Update: The Dota_DM datamining Telegram channel considers two more heroes, Bird Samurai and Gunslingers, to be Muerta’s prototypes. He revealed early concepts of the Corpse Mother as well as her abilities. Murta is the “Revenant” mentioned earlier. Vykram Reddy called the protagonist a “mournful revenant” on Twitter, while the item revenant’s brooch features a similarly stylized bird skull. Thanks to one sharp-eyed Redditor, we know that Muerta is indeed wearing the item in the trailer.
