Cross-progression is there in Apex Legends?

One of the most often requested improvements in Apex Legends is cross-progression. By just playing the game, leveling up their account, and purchasing a battle pass each season, players can amass fascinating cosmetic goods such as legend and weapon skins, banner frames, and pistol charms. However, you probably encountered difficulties if you ever needed to see those products on a different platform or account.

Cross-progression, as the name suggests, enables you to move prizes and progress from one platform to another. Apex can be played on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. It also allows cross-platform play, so you can team up with players on other systems. Cross-progression would enable you to access your account on both PC and Xbox, for instance, if you’ve spent most of your time on PC.

Cross-progression has not yet been added to Apex Legends, despite the game’s official support for cross-platform play. Your level, cosmetics, and achievements will therefore remain distinct on each platform if you play on numerous of them. To access all of your things in one location, there is currently no method to consolidate or merge accounts.

Cross-progression for the game is not always a pipe dream, though. Respawn Entertainment, the firm behind Apex, has reportedly been working on the feature for some time but has been kept down by hackers and other more critical problems. Cross-progression features have been put on the back burner since fixing those problems takes precedence. However, Respawn is not dismissing the notion.

Former Apex game designer Chad Grenier claimed cross-progression was “a lot more work” than he anticipated in a Twitch footage recorded during a developer panel with Brown Girl Gamer Code in 2020. According to him, “We are working on cross-progression, which will let people carry over purchases, skins, and account progress.” “It might take a little longer, but we’ll get there eventually.”

Cross-progression in Apex Legends has not yet been given a fixed release date. But over time, this feature has become a contentious issue in the community, with many developers offering their opinions and outlining many of the challenges involved in including it in the game. Ryan Rigney, a former Respawn director of communications, stated on Reddit in August 2021 that cross-progression in Apex wouldn’t be accessible that year and that its implementation is “gnarly as hell” from a logistical standpoint.

He wrote that in addition to the technical challenge of merging existing accounts, there were also legal and contractual issues to resolve when making purchases on other platforms. Citing the fact that every region had its own set of laws, he called it “a mess” and said it was extremely challenging to commit to a planned launch.

Design director Evan Nikolich acknowledged challenges with cross-platform functionality and deployment at an EA press conference in October 2022, saying Apex “wasn’t built with cross-progression in mind.” Nikolich also explained how the success of Apex changed the way that development was approached and how other features took precedence over cross-progression.

Cross-progression was still being worked on in December 2022, according to Josh Medina, senior producer at Respawn, along with other much-anticipated features including compatibility for next-generation consoles. The objectives for past quality-of-life commitments, like upgrades to the Firing Range and new game types, such as Team Deathmatch, were further reinforced in tweets from Medina.
