The gaming community was shocked when Twitter user Joleksu revealed a significant hitbox misalignment issue, a possibly game-breaking bug that couldn’t have come at a worse moment – only days before IEM Sydney. This quirk, which causes shots to miss their target despite accurate aiming, has sparked a heated debate among players while also drawing comparisons to a terrible moment in Counter-Strike history, leaving the esports community nervously anticipating Valve’s answer. Joleksu’s tweet unveiled a critical problem – when he fired an M4A4 at a bot, a noticeable misalignment occurred between the actual hitbox and what the server registered. To demonstrate this, he employed console commands, revealing that despite aiming for the bot’s head, the hitbox was misaligned and positioned farther back.
This bug is causing players to miss their shots, even when they aim directly at their adversaries. Furthermore, various gaps within the player hitboxes exacerbate the issue. Joleksu shared several images highlighting these glaring problems within Counter-Strike 2’s hitboxes.
To compound matters, other Twitter users observed that hitboxes lagged behind character models during movement – a truly alarming revelation. It’s worth noting that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) faced similar issues upon its launch in 2012, but Valve resolved them in 2015. It’s baffling to witness these identical issues resurface nearly a decade later in Counter-Strike 2.
Tournament organizer ESL has taken a stance regarding these issues ahead of IEM Sydney. In a statement, they expressed, “Bugs and issues are to be expected, and we will adapt accordingly. We encourage you to report any and all bugs, exploits, and issues to us so that we can collaborate in identifying potential solutions and reach resolutions.”
As the esports community and the game’s player base rally to find workarounds, there is optimism that Valve will soon address the prevailing complaints surrounding the game.
