Blizzard finally acknowledges Mercy as the real issue with Overwatch 2:

“We are planning tweaks for several of our other Support heroes, but the last one I’ll go over here is a reduction in Mercy’s damage boost,” Keller said. “It won’t be a lot – we’ll be reducing it from 30 percent to 25 percent. At this value, we feel that the ability will still feel effective while giving us room to rein in certain damage spikes.”

Keller seems ready to defend himself from an onslaught of Mercy mains outraged by the change to her damage buff, as he seems already prepared for backlash with this change. Keller said, “We’re conscious that this is a divisive issue and are trying to be receptive to the various community opinions.”

Since the first Overwatch game, Mercy has been controversial, but in recent months, her capacity to facilitate things like Soldier: 76’s oppression has caused her to come under scrutiny once more. Mercy’s propensity for making DPS heroes feel overpowered even inspired a meme. Seven years after the original game’s release and continuing to this day, Mercy’s ability to completely take over a game while keeping a Pharah is still a topic of discussion.

Mercy is a popular choice for players of all skill levels because of her dual-purpose kit as a support hero who can both heal allies and assist them in dealing with significant damage. Whether this new change will bring her in line with the other players on the roster, remains to be seen. On August 10, Overwatch 2: Invasion will go on sale.
