Many players have been saying that they are encountering “The player you are viewing has migrated to Battlegrounds Mobile India.” This kind of pop up was earlier seen last year when players’ data was in the process of moving data from PUBG Mobile to Battlegrounds Mobile India. For the unversed, PUBG Mobile was banned in the country in September 2020, owing to security concerns. BGMI came out as an alternate, and a year later, it has also been banned.

Why is BGMI banned in India in 2022?

Media reports say that the game has been banned under the Section 69A of the IT Act. To jog your memory, it was the same act that got PUBG Mobile and other 100+ apps banned back in 2020 and then in 2021, again. So, what exactly is the IT Act?

The IT Act’s Section 69A gives the government the authority to mandate the banning of public access to any information via any computer resource.

“Where the Central Government or any of its officers specially authorised by it in this behalf is satisfied that it is necessary or expedient so to do, in the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the State, friendly relations with foreign States or public order or for preventing incitement to the commission of any cognizable offence relating to above, it may subject to the provisions of sub-section (2) for reasons to be recorded in writing, by order, direct any agency of the Government or intermediary to block for access by the public or cause to be blocked for access by the public any information generated, transmitted, received, stored or hosted in any computer resource.”
