Recap and Review

The previous episode certainly has a lot of content! How many squid? The plot thickens as Ren’s cross-dressing obsession with a classmate prompts an intriguing discussion about a child’s growth between his father, Miyasaka, and the elderly man.

Matsubara, the idol who resides in the magazine, is completely fictional and untrue to her actual self. The program does a great job at turning the scene where Ren sees her undressed after a bath into a discussion on liberation, experimentation, stealing clothes, and parent-child bonding rather than an ecchi cliche like most anime.

Miyasaka returns to her skill as a chef when the extraterrestrial squid escapes. I fail to understand why he isn’t a full-time chef (or at least a breakfast and supper cook). Before Miyasaka physically removes “short cut” Aoi, the gossip lady only gets one line. We learn that Shoin’s opulent mansion is the “love hotel” as they pull up in front of it. Miyasaka and Mira both have strong opinions about each other, and it’s clear that Aoi’s feelings for Miyasaka will only deepen after she hears the “voice” and decides to cut her hair to fit his “girl type” expectations.
