Apex Legends lacked a weapon mastery system that allowed players to unlock special rewards for each weapon the more they used it, unlike other battle royale games like Warzone 2. Respawn changed that on May 9 by adding its own twist to the system.

Every 20 levels you must pass a trial associated with that weapon in order to move on. The math indicates that each weapon requires five trials to fully master. One weapon requires 1,000,000 Weapon XP to master, and all 29 require 29,000,000. That’s because it is a lot of work; it sounds like a lot of work. However, in my experience, farming Weapon XP hasn’t been too difficult.

The various methods for obtaining Weapon XP are listed below, ranked from easiest to most difficult.

Holding a weapon

Holding a weapon while you play is the simplest way to gain Weapon XP. For each second it is in your possession, you receive a small payment. It won’t work the same way if you store it. I’d advise keeping that weapon on hand at all times if you want to farm a lot of Weapon XP for that weapon quickly. You will run more slowly as a result, but the quicker advancement is worthwhile.

Getting killed with a weapon

If holding a weapon and using it to deal damage generates a lot of Weapon XP, it makes sense that getting a kill with one increases the total. If the last bullet was fired from that weapon, it still counts, albeit with a small bonus. Simply put, it’s not as crucial as the other approaches.

Dealing damage with a weapon

Another quick way to gain a tonne of Weapon XP is to deal damage with a weapon. You will receive more money if you cause harm while zipping, sliding, or other types of movement. I couldn’t recommend it enough, so I started jumping and sliding around like a madman to take full advantage of it.

Getting headshots with a weapon

You will gain even more Weapon XP for your efforts if you are an accomplished player who scores lots of headshots. It’s simple to make more money by head-shooting someone with a weapon. I would advise taking a seat back with a sniper rifle and firing away like there was no tomorrow.
