The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will host the Olympic Esports Series 2023, an event that will take place at Singapore’s Suntec Centre from June 22 to 25 and will include a total of 10 video games. The competition represents yet another step in the esports and Olympic Games integration process. Prior to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, the Olympic Virtual Series was held in 2021 and drew about 250,000 participants from 100 different nations.

The IOC came under fire for initially announcing the Olympic Esports Series 2023 with only sports simulator games but later revealed Fortnite will be used for a shooting competition. The IOC stated in an interview with Polygon in March that its main objective is to promote the “development of virtual and simulated sports games,” which explains why Fortnite is the only esports on the list. The most widely played esports—League of Legends, VALORANT, and CS:GO—are not in line with Olympic values, and the games must be.

Here is a list of every game that will be played during the Olympic Esports Series in 2023.

  • Baseball – World Baseball Softball Confederation – WBSC eBASEBALL™: POWER PROS

The Olympic Esports Series 2023 will be open to spectators in person, just like the majority of esports LAN tournaments. Additionally, it will be broadcast worldwide on the Olympic Games’ social media platforms and Olympics.com. On June 23, cycling, dancing, sailing, baseball, taekwondo, sport shooting, and tennis will be available for spectators. On June 24, motorsports and chess will be available.

This is most likely a result of the ISSF’s lack of regard for the Olympic Esports Week, which is centered around regular Fortnite matches. According to an interview published by Polygon in March 2023, the IOC’s main objective is to promote the “development of virtual and simulated sports games,” so all nine of the other games are essentially sports simulators.

The Olympic Esports Series’ featured games must adhere to the Olympic Values, according to the IOC, which stated as much to Polygon in March. As the IOC’s mission is to unite the world in peaceful competition, this includes participation inclusivity, such as technical entry barriers, the gender split of the player base, and avoiding any personal violence.
