A new gold-farming Dota 2 tactic has disastrously failed

The Hand of Midas strategy increased the amount of time Ogre Magi was separated from his teammates even though it appeared to be a sound plan on paper.

With patch 7.34, released just two months before The International 2023, Dota 2’s metagame completely changed. The Hand of Midas was one of the items that underwent changes in the update and can now store two charges. Members of the Dota 2 community came up with a new gold-farming technique shortly after reading the patch notes that were released on August 8.

Fans discovered that the most recent version of Hand of Midas didn’t share a cooldown with duplicate versions when they loaded into the game’s Demo mode. As a result, players would be able to purchase multiple Hand of Midas items, each of which would have a different cooldown. Due to players farming three or more copies of Hands of Midas on Ogre Magi, the hero unexpectedly became everyone’s favorite.

A new gold-farming Dota 2 tactic has disastrously failed:

Even Joná “SabeRLight-” Volek of Shopify Rebellion joined in on the fun by providing a Refresher Orb to go along with his three gold makers. Nevertheless, despite making Ogre Magi the richest hero on the map, the tactic ultimately reduced Ogre Magi’s win percentage.

Ogre Magi was listed as one of the top losers of patch 7.34 in a report published by STRATZ.com. The hero suffered a significant loss of 4.7 percent, and his win percentage fell below 50 percent.

The Hand of Midas strategy increased the amount of time Ogre Magi was separated from his teammates even though it appeared to be a sound plan on paper. Due to his tanky nature and potent spells, Ogre Magi is a hero who must actively participate on the map, especially in the early stages of the game. Ogre Magi’s early-game effectiveness is eliminated by the Hand of Midas route, and by the time he has amassed all the necessary tools, the opposing team has prepared for the game’s conclusion.
