According to the company’s president and COO John Robinson, the Los Angeles Thieves team in the Call of Duty League (CDL) suffered a $2.5 million loss in 2022. On the Nadeshot Knows podcast, Robinson discussed the L.A. Thieves’ upcoming rebuild as well as the state of esports with 100T founder and CEO Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag, 100T SVP of esports Jacob “Maelk” Toft-Anderson, and Nadeshot’s assistant Joe Kalas.

Robinson broke down the losses the esports organization suffered with its CDL team in 2022, when the L.A. Thieves won a $500,000 Major and a $2.55 million world championship event, to fully explain why 100T has parted ways with all of the players on its 2023 CDL roster. He acknowledged that if a world championship was on the other side, he would suffer the losses once more, but he emphasized that this couldn’t be sustained year after year. The viability of the company was questioned in July 2022 when 100T laid off workers, and once more in January 2023 when several dozen additional employees and the chief revenue officer were let go.

Robinson also discussed a seemingly lofty objective that has been given to each of 100T’s businesses, including its Juvee energy drink, Higround’s keyboard and peripherals business, content, apparel, and of course, esports.

Profitability is the objective, something that esports organizations have long sought after. This has resulted in a full-blown rebuild for LAT, which Nadeshot, a former CoD professional, claimed was not something he wanted to do. Robinson claimed that every component of 100T is being asked to “hit a threshold level of break-even next year.”

Nadeshot responded, “If you think that I want to win a Major this year and a World Championship last year, and then say goodbye to all of our players—fucking not. But he did add that it is essential and that he is eager to try something new with the CoD team by making them underdogs.
