Marcus Rashford would be keen to be part of the Manchester United squad that will be looking to end the calendar year with all three points against Burnley on Thursday night. The Red Devils will take to Old Trafford pitch for a final time in this calendar year and the Clarets will be their opponents in the Premier League clash. This match will come three days on from the disappointing 1-1 draw at Newcastle United. On the back of that result, the Red Devils will be keen to get back to winning ways when playing in front of a home crowd for the first time in over three weeks tonight. Rashford and co will be keen to send the fans into the new year with a win.

Rashford would be grateful to have been able to put in regular minutes in a United shirt recently, following his return from a shoulder operation that he opted to have in the summer. He will be now looking to play as many minutes as he can for the Reds in 2022. “I’m just buzzing to be back with the squad. That’s the first thing you miss when you’re out for a long time, it’s being with your team-mates and training every day and stuff like that,” Rashford said in an interview with club media.

“Then when you get to watch them on the weekend, that’s the exciting bit because you get to see them put into action what they’ve been working on all week. And if we get the win, it makes you even happier because you can’t be there with them. It just makes you happy when you win the games. Then you start to build your recovery, you get closer and closer, and you just can’t wait to be back out there. I’m just looking forward to playing lots of games for the club again.”

Rashford: I’m just ready for the games

Rashford also revealed that comebacks have been a topic of conversation between him and injured midfielder Paul Pogba recently. “I was just speaking to Paul about this before, now I just feel so free and I’m just looking forward to the games because it’s been a long time since I’ve been completely free of injuries and stuff like that. I’m just ready for the games.”

Next up for Rashford and his teammates is Thursday night’s meeting with Burnley at the Theatre of Dreams. The game is expected to be watched by a crowd of over 70,000 inside the stadium. It is interesting to note that the year had started with no supporters in attendance at matches due to restrictions in place to limit the spread of COVID-19.

“It’s been a difficult year for the fans as it has been for everyone. But when the fans came back the excitement and the buzz of football just went back to the level it was always at. For me, I’d say don’t underestimate how important the fans are to the players,” he added.

“When you’re running on the pitch in the 70th, 80th minute and you’re completely drained, they’re the ones who keep you going. It probably explains why Man United score so many late goals. We try to use the energy of the fans and try to put that into the team. So, I’d just like to say thank you to them for their support.”
