Rahul Dravid was born on 11th January 1973. He is a former cricketer who represented India in all three formats of the game. Dravid is currently serving as the head coach of the Indian national team. Nicknamed ‘The Wall’, he is one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket.
A textbook batsman with impeccable technique, Dravid was a symbol of patience and incredible concentration. Though Dravid has a reputation for playing defensively, he can pace his innings according to the situation.
Dravid’s consistent performances in the domestic circle earned him a call to the national side in 1994. But he had to wait almost two more years to make his debut. He made his ODI debut on 3rd April 1996 against Sri Lanka. His early stints in ODI was rather unsuccessful. However, following his Test debut against England on 20th June 1996, Rahul Dravid managed to impress.
His contrasting performances in the longer format earned him the tag of being a Test specialist. Dravid’s rise in the ODI format came during India’s tour of New Zealand in 1998/99. He ended the series as India’s top scorer after scoring 309 runs with an average of 77.25. His fine form in ODI continued which secured his spot in India’s squad for the World Cup in 1999. Even though India failed to qualify for the semifinals, Dravid once again proved his worth by becoming India’s leading scorer in the tournament.

Rahul Dravid’s most memorable performance came in a match at Eden Garden in Kolkata during Australia’s tour of India. Coming into India with 15 consecutive Test wins, Australia were looking unstoppable. India were no match for Australia in the first Test match as the visitors ran away comfortable winners in the end. In the second Test at Eden Gardens, the Aussies bowled out India for 171 in the first innings and enforced a follow-on having a huge lead of 274. They looked well on their course to continue their juggernaut. Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman came together when India needed another 42 runs to avoid innings defeat. They put on a resolute display and stitched a historic partnership of 376 runs with Dravid scoring 180, thereby setting a target of 384. India won the Test match putting an end to the winning streak of Australia.
Dravid captained India in 79 matches and has led the side to famous victories, including Test series win in Pakistan.
In the Indian Premier League, Dravid played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2008, 2009, and 2010 and then for Rajasthan Royals till 2013.
Rahul Dravid has scored 24,177 runs in international cricket and is the fourth-highest scoring batsman in Tests behind Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis.

Vijeta Pendharkar is born to a family of an Air Force Wing Commander who is settled in Nagpur. She did her schooling at Bal Bharati School in Delhi. Vijeta did Intermediate in Science from Shri Shivaji Science College. She then pursued her career in MBBS and post-graduation at Government Medical College in Nagpur. Vijeta first met Dravid when her father was transferred to Bangalore from 1968 to 1971. Vijeta’s father became close friend with Dravid’s father. Later, Vijeta’s family moved to Nagpur but the families maintained their friendship. Dravid and Vijeta grew fond of each other in the meantime and their families accepted their relationship. They got married on 4th May 2003. Later, Vijeta gave up her profession to look after their children.
