The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) met with captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, and top selector Chetan Sharma on Sunday to discuss the team’s performance in 2022. The meeting also included BCCI chairman Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah, and National Cricket Academy (NCA) head VVS Laxman, as they discussed the future course of action for Indian cricket. Following the conclusion of the conference, the BCCI announced a number of actions, including a revision of the selection criteria and issues concerning workload management. While the ‘Yo-Yo’ Test was reinstated in the Indian team, ‘DEXA’ was also mentioned as a selection criterion.

‘DEXA’ was also announced as part of the selection criteria. Both are “implemented in the customized roadmaps of the central pool of players,” according to a statement from the BCCI. DEXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) is a bone density imaging test. This test is used to assess bone strength and can help detect a probable fracture in the bone. The scan yields two kinds of beans: high-energy and low-energy. Both beams are passed through the bone, and the amount of X-rays emitted is counted to determine bone density.

Yo-yo Test is back too

Meanwhile, the BCCI had previously cancelled the Yo-Yo Tests due to increased weariness among players while playing inside the Covid-19 bio-bubble. The test makes a comeback in the Indian team now that bio-bubbles are no longer present. In addition, BCCI also dictated a new ruling for emerging players. “The emerging players will have to play a substantial domestic season to be eligible for selection to the national team,” read a pointer from the BCCI statement briefing the review meeting. “Keeping in mind the Men’s FTP and preparations for ICC CWC 2023, the NCA will work in tandem with the IPL Franchisee to monitor the targeted Indian players participating in the IPL 2023,” the BCCI statement read.
