Afif Hossain is a professional cricketer, who plays for Bangladesh cricket team Internationally. Afif has represented the Bangladesh cricket team in One Day International and T20 International formats of the game. Afif was born on 22 September 1999 in Khulna region of Bangladesh. He is often called Dhrubo by his teammates. Afif has been a part of Bangladesh’s team since 2018. Afif was part of Bangladesh’s biggest sports university, named Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan, which has produced players like Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and others. Coaches at the university found Afif similar to Tamim Iqbal. As he also was a big hitter at under 19 level. Afif at an early age got the opportunity to play in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
At the age of 17, Afif became the youngest bowler in Bangladesh to take a five wicket haul in Bangladesh premier League (BPL). It was Afif’s debut match in BPL for Rajshahi Kings on 3 December 2016. In the final stages of the contest, Afif took another 5 wicket haul while playing against Chittagong Vikings. In the 2016-17 Bangladesh Cricket League, Afif played his first class cricket debut match for East Zone on 11 February 2017. He opened the innings for them, and scored 105 runs. Afif was named man of the match for his outstanding performance. In the 2018-19 season of BPL, Afif was signed by Sylhet Sixers in October 2018. For the 2020 season of BPL, Afif got selected by Rajshahi Royals in November 2019.

In the 2016 Under 19 Asia Cup, Afif played as the vice captain of the Bangladesh team. Afif became part of the Bangladesh under 19 team that played in ICC under 19 world cup of 2018. Afif was the highest run scorer for Bangladesh with 276 runs throughout the tournament. With consistent performance in the under 19 team, Afif got the chance to represent Bangladesh Internationally. In 2018, Afif played his T20I debut match against Sri Lanka. Afif was later selected for the 2019-20 Bangladesh Tri Nation series. In the first match against Zimbabwe, when Bangladesh was about to lose, Afif played an important knock for them and helped his team win the match. He scored 52 runs off just 26 balls and was named man of the match.
Later, Afif became part of Bangladesh team in the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Afif was also part of the Bangladesh team that won the gold medal in the 2019 South Asian Games, after defeating Sri Lanka in the finals. In 2020, Afif got the opportunity to play ODI for Bangladesh, when he was selected to play against Zimbabwe. It was on 6 March 2020, when Afif played his ODI debut match. Afif was included in Bangladesh’s team that took part in the 2021 ICC T20 world cup. Afif holds the record of scoring highest individual score by any Bangladeshi player coming at number 7 or below. He scored 93 runs against Afghanistan when Bangladesh registered a famous win over them in 2022.
