Ebadot Hossain to Shreyas Iyer, no run, clips the stumps, but the bail was not removed! What a lucky break for Iyer it was !! Ebadot can’t believe what they just witnessed. This was the same bail that was replaced in the over. Iyer had another life. He got stranded on the crease and was caught in a tangle by Ebadot’s nip-backer. Bottom-edge that brushed against the timber on its way to Nurul. However, as we all know, it doesn’t matter if the bail doesn’t come off.

Bangladesh fought back fiercely in the last half hour of the day! It means they had a good start and finish to the day and might have been in a far better position if they had held on to two catches (they also had a third chance but that was really tough). Taijul is Bangladesh’s standout of the day, bowling one-third of the total overs for three top wickets. He achieved the initial breakthrough with Gill’s wicket, then trapped Kohli for 1 with a beauty and toiled all day from around the wicket to right-hand batters, attempting to beat them with his combination of drift and turn. He beat Pujara numerous times before getting him for 90 with the second new ball.

Pujara to the rescue again

Shreyas Iyer is still out there on 82, looking solid against spin and doing well to keep the bowlers at bay. Given the absence of bounce, this does not appear to be a day one pitch, and there is a good turn as well, but that is not an issue. Pujara held together India’s innings after being given a life soon after lunch, first with Pant in a counter-attacking stand and then with Iyer in a solid 149-run partnership for the fifth wicket. India were struggling at 48 for 3, and it was Pujara who came to the rescue once more.
