On the second day of the 2nd Test of the four-match series, Australia overpowered India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, February 18. In the encounter, the Australian spinners plagued the Indian batters, with veteran bowler Nathan Lyon bringing up his maiden five-wicket haul in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023. Team India began the second day of the second Test with a lead of 21 runs and no wickets lost. The hosts got off to a shaky start, losing seven wickets for 139 runs. KL Rahul was the first batter out in India’s first innings, and he was quickly followed by Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Shreyas Iyer. The visitors began the second session with vital wickets of Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma.

Virat Kohli was engaged in a contentious DRS decision off the bowling of Matthew Kuhnemann. This occurred on the third delivery of the 50th over when Kohli was out LBW. The ball struck both the bat and the pad at the same time, but there was no solid evidence that the ball struck the pad first. Australia won the toss and chose to bat first. The Australians were knocked out for 263 runs, with Mohammad Shami getting four wickets and spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja both taking three. Usman Khawaja led the way for the visitors with an 81-run half-century, while Peter Handscomb batted admirably in the middle order and finished unbeaten on 72.

Matt Kuhnemann struck the middle and leg stump with a long, slow delivery. Virat Kohli advanced to defend, but the ball struck his pad first. Virat Kohli scored 44 runs from 84 balls, including four fours, against Australia in a tight situation. Following the third umpire’s verdict against Virat Kohli, the cricketing world erupted on Twitter. This isn’t the first time the former Indian captain has made a dramatic exit. Earlier, in the second Test against New Zealand in Bombay, he was dismissed identically by left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel.
