The IPL 2023 auction set a new record by selling the three most expensive players in the tournament’s history in less than 30 minutes. While Sam Curran became the most expensive player in tournament history after being sold to Punjab Kings for a whopping INR 18.50 crore, Cameron Green and Ben Stokes joined him to become the second and third most expensive players, respectively, with final prices of INR 17.50 crore and INR 16.25 crore. Green was sold to MI while CSK grabbed Stokes.
Though the foreign players received the highest bids and were the auction’s focus, Indian uncapped players were the biggest winners in the 2023 auction. Mukesh Kumar of Bengal, whose performances in the domestic system piqued the selectors’ interest, was the largest winner in the IPL 2023 auction. Shivam Mavi is the next person on the list, having gained 1500%. His bidding began at INR 40 lakh, and he was eventually signed by Gujarat Titans for a spectacular INR 6 crore. Vivrant Sharma of Jammu and Kashmir is the third-highest gainer in the IPL 2023, having signed with Sunrisers Hyderabad. SRH signed him for INR 2.6 crore after he gained 1300% on a base price of INR 20 lakh. Mavi was part of KKR last year while all-rounder Sharma has immense potential.
Mayank Dagar, another uncapped Indian talent from Himachal Pradesh, was recruited by SRH for INR 1.8 crore, a 900% increase. Dagar, who made news in 2018 by outperforming Virat Kohli and Mayank Agarwal in yo-yo test scores, will undoubtedly be the one to watch this season.
