Scotland recorded their second victory on the spin in the ICC T20 World Cup on Tuesday when they beat Papua New Guinea (PNG) by 17 runs. The Scots had batted in the first innings and posted a score of 165-9 while PNG managed a score of 148 all out in 19.3 overs. There were several stars on the day for the Scots. Batters Matthew Cross and Richie Berrington played fantastic knocks while Josh Davey bowled a dream spell. PNG did try to fight back late in the game but it was just not enough to record their first win of the campaign.

Despite the loss, there were few Papua New Guinea batters that did a fine job on the day. Norman Vanua was their highest run-scorer as he made 47 runs off 37 deliveries. Sese Bau also played a good knock as he scored 24 runs off 23 deliveries. Skipper Kiplin Doriga and Chad Soper made a late charge towards the victory as they scored 18 and 16 runs respectively. Both had come off of 11 deliveries.

ALL ROUND PERFORMANCE BY SCOTLAND

Davey was the pick of the bowlers for Scotland on the day. He picked four wickets in 3.3 overs and conceded only 18 runs in his spell. Brad Wheal, Alasdair Evans, Mark Watt, and Chris Greaves picked one wicket each for the Scottish team.

Batting-wise, Scotland can be quite pleased with their performance. Skipper Matthew Cross played a brilliant knock as he scored 45 runs off 36 deliveries in an innings that included two boundaries and two maximums. Richie Berrington was absolutely outstanding on the day as well as he scored an incredible 70 runs off just 49 deliveries at a strike rate of 142. He hit six boundaries and three maximums.

KABUA MOREA, CHAD SOPER IMPRESS WITH THE BALL FOR PNG

Kabua Morea had a fine day with the ball for Papua New Guinea and that will be one of the positives they can take from the loss on the day. Morea picked four wickets in four overs and conceded 31 runs. Chad Soper also had a fine performance with the ball as he picked three wickets in four overs for just 24 runs. Simon Atai also picked a wicket for Papua New Guinea.

While Scotland look to be in a good vein of form recently, things have been bleak for Papua New Guinea. The Asian cricketing nation is yet to record their first win in the competition but they will feel a little more confident after the performance against Scotland. The Scots, on the other hand, look set for an excellent campaign. They have won both their matches and could be potential giant slayers in the tournament.
