Players and spectators were confused about what happened in the dramatic final of Bangladesh’s Super 12 match against Zimbabwe at The Gabba. After their historic win against Pakistan at Perth, Zimbabwe narrowly lost a thrilling contest to Bangladesh by three runs, but the drama that unfolded in the last ball of the final over was one of the rarest sights seen in any form of cricket. In the end, Zimbabwe had two chances to knock off the win, but both went down in vain, allowing Bangladesh to get away with two points.

Not much separated Bangladesh and Zimbabwe all day and the match boiled down to the last over, with Zimbabwe needing 16 to win. The final over was bowled by Mosaddek Hossain, he dismissed Brad Evans off the first ball. However, Richard Ngarava had other plans, as he smashed a four and a six off the next 2 balls to bring the equation down to 5 needed off two. Off the second last delivery, Ngarava got out stumped and Blessing Muzarabani walked out to the middle with 5 needed of the final delivery. Mossaddek fired a wide outside off which Muzarabani missed and also got stumped.

Drama over no ball on the last ball

The players shook hands and walked off the field. But just then, after the third umpire, after having a proper look at that dismissal, signalled a no-ball. Due to a school-boy error from Bangladesh wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan. The replay showed that Nurul had collected the ball in front of the stumps and dislodged the bails, making it a no-ball. The rules state that if a keeper’s gloves, while affecting a stumping, are not behind the stumps, it will result in a no-ball. Of course, Muzarabani was way out of his crease but it did not matter. It was unbelievable to see all the players walked back on the ground to complete the match. And since it was a no-ball, Zimbabwe now required four off the last ball.

Hossain delivered under a lot of pressure, he repeated the dose a second time around as Muzarabani swung hard and missed the ball by a long way handing Bangladesh an important victory.
