The International Cricket Council has implemented a new regulation for the semi-finals and finals of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, stating that a minimum of 10 overs in both innings must be completed in order for the game to have a result.

According to the new rule, if weather interferes with the fixtures and the game is reduced to fewer than 10-overs-a-side, there will be no result. The Australian weather has not been kind to teams this year, but there will be a reserve day for the knockout stage matches.

Several matches have already been washed out which has meant teams did not get the opportunity to play at all. Afghanistan was the most unluckiest team as their two games were abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Teams still fighting for 3 semi-final spots

Teams from both groups have been competing hard to get to the final four, and as of now, only one team has secured a position. The previous year’s finalists, New Zealand, confirmed their semi-final position at the showpiece tournament after winning three of their four games.

The other two teams in contention from Group 1 are England and Australia, and the competition has heated up. Sri Lanka, who are fourth in the points table, behind second and third-placed England and Australia, has no chance of reaching the semis, but they can spoil England’s plans.

In Group 2, India and South Africa are the clear favourites to advance to the next round, while Pakistan’s chances are murky. New Zealand, the first team to qualify for the next round, has dominated the Super 12 stage. They were victorious over Sri Lanka, Australia, and Ireland. Their game against Afghanistan was called off, and they lost to England. However, they had a fantastic campaign and maintained a huge NRR of +2.113 to make the semis at the tournament.
