Prithvi Shaw, Sarfaraz Khan, and Ravi Bishnoi were the most shocking absentees from India’s white-ball selections for the November tour of New Zealand and the December ODI and Test tour of Bangladesh. Shaw, who has lit up the Indian domestic circuit with excellent performances, was shockingly left out of any of the three white-ball squads revealed on Monday – the T20I and ODI teams in New Zealand, as well as the ODI setup against Bangladesh.

Bishnoi, who had been a regular in the T20I setup and is currently on standby for the T20 World Cup, was curiously left out of any of the teams. Shaw, Bishnoi, and two other Indian cricketers, Nitish Rana and Umesh Yadav, who did not make the white-ball teams, wrote emotional posts on Instagram in response to the news. Shaw captioned it, “Hope you’re watching everything Sai Baba.” While Bishnoi posted, “Comeback is always stronger than a setback,” on his Instagram story.

Shaw hit a century in the Duleep Trophy opener in Chennai in September, scoring 113 off 121 balls for West Zone against East Zone. Later that month, Shaw smacked another 77 for India A against New Zealand A. He followed it up with scores of 60 and 142 against Central Zone as West Zone won by 79 runs. But despite this, he could not get an opportunity in any of India’s squads. He last played for India in Sri Lanka last year.

What was surprising was that even Nitish Rana was ignored for selection who too was part of the squad for the Sri Lanka tour. He too expressed his disappointment on social media like others.
