Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the second Test against Bangladesh, which begins on December 22 in Mirpur. The India captain will not travel to Dhaka after missing the first Test in Chattogram. In his absence, vice-captain KL Rahul will lead the squad in the second and final Test of the series, which India leads 1-0. Rohit’s absence was announced on Monday after it was discovered that the skipper’s thumb had not fully healed. He appears to have a little stiffness in his fingers. Given the importance of the Indian team’s next tasks, the BCCI, selection committee, and team management have chosen not to risk him at this time.

It is understood that Rohit, who is currently in Mumbai, would have batted through the Test but was concerned about the risk associated with fielding. If he gets hurt on that thumb again, the medical professionals and team management believe it will be serious on the field. When asked about Rohit’s availability for the second Test, Rahul stated he was still waiting for more information. He appears to be available for the white ball series (three T20Is and three ODIs) against Sri Lanka, which begins on January 3.

Gill to get another game

In the second ODI, Rohit sustained a thumb injury while attempting to take a catch in the slips, prompting the BCCI medical team to inspect him and rush him to Mumbai for treatment on December 7. Since then, he has been receiving treatment in the city. The absence of Rohit may have alleviated a big selection dilemma for the team management ahead of the second Test, since deciding who to leave out would not have been easy. India won the first Test by 188 runs, with Shubman Gill striking his maiden Test century and stand-in skipper and fellow opener KL Rahul batting quietly.
