In the third and final Test of the series against Pakistan in Karachi, England’s rookie leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed finished with a five-wicket haul, becoming the youngest Test bowler in history to get a fifer on debut. Rehan took a five-wicket haul on his debut at the age of 18 years, 126 days, making him the youngest bowler in men’s Test history to do so. On day three of the Karachi Test, the leg-spinner took his fifth wicket, breaking the previous mark held by Pat Cummins. In 2011, Cummins took 6/79 against South Africa at the age of 18 years, 193 days.

When Rehan took the wickets of Babar Azam (54), Mohammad Rizwan (7), and Saud Shakeel (53) in a six-over span, Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel were building a strong partnership. As Pakistan was bowled out for 216 in their second innings, he claimed the final two victims, Mohammad Wasim and Agha Salman, to end with a five-for on his debut. This gave England a target of 167.

England heading towards a 3-0 win

Earlier, deciding to bat first, Pakistan had produced 304 in their first innings, with the fifties by skipper Babar Azam (78) and Agha Salman (56). England’s bowler of choice was spinner Jack Leach (4/140).
England took a 50-run lead in the game before being swept out for 354 in their first innings. The visitors’ top hitters were Harry Brook (111) and Ben Foakes (64). Nauman Ali (4/126) and Abrar Ahmed (4/150) were notable bowlers for Pakistan. They are currently 112-2 in the chase of 167.

Rehan became the 53rd England bowler to take five wickets on Test debut, matching Will Jacks’ feat earlier in the series. Rehan, on the other hand, was the youngest to accomplish the feat on his Test debut. Rehan had already become England’s youngest Test debutant when he was awarded a cap for the third Test of the series. Earlier this year, Ahmed was England’s second-highest wicket-taker in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, claiming 12 wickets in four matches at an average of 12.58.
