The Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy is an English domestic cricket competition for women’s cricketers. Matches are played in the 50-over or one-day format. The tournament is named after former England women’s cricket team skipper Rachel Heyhoe Flint, who passed away in 2017. The first edition of the tournament took place in 2020 but was only meant to be a one-off. This is because the introduction of The Hundred would supersede the tournament already in place, the Women’s Cricket Super League. However, in February 2021 the England and Wales Cricket Board announced its return,. Not only that, but they also said a new Regional T20 tournament would be introduced. This new tournament would, however, have a slightly alterered format.
The 2020 edition of the tournament featured 8 teams – 2 who came from the WCSL and 6 new sides. Thus, the new sides were Central Sparks, Lightning, Northern Diamonds, North West Thunder, South East Stars and Sunrisers.
The existing team to then come over from the WCSL were Southern Vipers and Western Storm. It was the Vipers who won the first edition of the tournament, beating Northern Diamonds in the final.
The 2021 tournament will see the same sides fight it out for the trophy. For viewers in India, they can see the matches on the tournament website or on the YouTube channels of the respective teams.
