Chandradasa Brahammana Ralalage Lahiru Sudesh Kumara, also known as Lahiru Kumara was born on 13 February 1997. He plays for the Sri Lanka national cricket team in all three formats of the game. He was selected to the international squad at the age of 19 only due to his stunning fast bowling capabilities of 140+kmp/h and wonderful performances in the Under-19 team as well.

When did Lahiru Kumara make his International debut?

He made his Test debut on 29th October 2016 vs Zimbabwe. He made his ODI debut on 4th February 2017 vs South Africa whereas he made his debut in the T20I format on 11th January 2019 vs New Zealand as well.

Lahiru Kumara - Domestic Career

Lahiru Kumara made his first-class debut for Sri Lanka A against West Indies A on 4th October 2016. He made his Twenty20 debut for Nondescripts Cricket Club in the 2017–18 SLC T20 Tournament on 24th February 2018 as well.

In March 2018, he was named in Kandy's squad for the 2017–18 Super Four Provincial Tournament as well.The next month, he was also named in the squad for the 2018 Super Provincial One Day Tournament as well.

In August 2018, he was added to Galle's squad the 2018 SLC T20 League. In October 2020, he was added to the Dambulla Viiking for the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League. In August 2021, he was added to the SLC Greens team for the 2021 SLC Invitational T20 League tournament. In November 2021, he was included in the Kandy Warriors squad after the players' draft for the 2021 Lanka Premier League as well.

Moreover, ahead of his debut, Lahiru Kumara was a part of Sri Lanka's squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup as well. He also guided the Sri Lanka U-19s team through to the semi-final alongside pacer Asitha Fernando and eventually win the match by 6 wickets as well.

Lahiru Kumara - International Career

Kumara was named in Sri Lanka's Test squad for their tour of Zimbabwe in October 2016. He made his Test debut for Sri Lanka against Zimbabwe on 29th October 2016 as well where his maiden Test wicket was Peter Moor. Later, he was added to Sri Lanka's One Day International (ODI) team for Tri-Series in Zimbabwe, involving West Indies as well.

Kumara was named in the Test series against South Africa in 2016–17. He played in the second Test at Newlands Cricket Ground, where he claimed his maiden Test five-wicket haul as well. His figures of 6 for 122 are the best bowling figures by a Sri Lankan speedster in South Africa and also the second best overall in the rainbow nation as well.

In January 2017, he was named in Sri Lanka's ODI squad for their series against South Africa as well. He made his ODI debut against South Africa on 4th February 2017 at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg where he scored 5 runs in the match and took his first ODI wicket by dismissing Quinton de Kock for 8 runs as well.

In May 2018, he was one of 33 cricketers to be awarded a national contract by Sri Lanka Cricket before the 2018–19 season. In August 2018, he was added to Sri Lanka's squad for the one-off Twenty20 International (T20I) match against South Africa, but he did not get the chance to play.

However, in November 2018, he was removed from the Test squad for their series against England due to disciplinary reasons. In January 2019, Kumara was added to Sri Lanka's T20 International squad for the one-off T20I against New Zealand. He also made his T20I debut in that match against New Zealand on 11th January 2019 as well. Later in the same month, he was sustained a hamstring injury on day two of the first Test in Brisbane against Australia and was eventually ruled out of the second Test against Australia in Canberra and the tour of South Africa as well.

In September 2021, he was added as one of four reserve players in Sri Lanka's squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. But later in October 2021, he along with three other cricketers were included in Sri Lanka’s main 15 man squad and he made his T20 World Cup debut against Namibia on 18th October 2021 as well, where he claimed 2 wickets in the match and finished with the match figures of 2-9 from 3.3 overs as well.
