The T20 World Cup 2022 organisers have changed the playing rules for Sunday’s final between Pakistan and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to provide for more time in the event of weather delays. Thirty minutes of extra time on Sunday and two hours on Monday (reserve day) have been set aside in case of rain. If a 10-over-per-side match is not possible, England and Pakistan will be proclaimed joint winners.

“There must be a minimum of 10 overs bowled to the side batting second in the final, subject to a result not being achieved earlier and there is a reserve day in place (14th November at 3:00 pm AEDT) should play not be completed on Sunday,” a release from the official website of T20 World Cup said on Friday. Every effort will be made for the match to be completed on Sunday, with any necessary reduction of overs taking place and only if the minimum number of overs necessary to constitute a match cannot be bowled on Sunday, the match be completed on Monday. If the match is to be completed on Monday then the match will resume at the point where the last ball was played,” the release added.

“There is 30 minutes of extra time available for the match to be completed on Sunday, while an additional two hours of extra time is available on Monday for the match to be completed. A Super Over will be played should scores be tied at the end of the match and if the weather interferes and the Super Over cannot be completed, then Pakistan and England will be declared joint winners,” the release concluded.

England advanced to the final with a convincing 10-wicket win over India at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday. Pakistan, on the other hand, cruised to a seven-wicket victory over Kane Williamson’s New Zealand in the first semi-final on Wednesday at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). This is Pakistan’s first Final after winning the tournament in 2009 and England’s first final after losing the Final in the 2016 edition to the West Indies.
