Punjab Kings (PBKS) batsman Nicholas Pooran was dismissed for a duck in Friday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 league encounter against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Pooran departed for a three-ball duck after being caught off-guard by a short delivery banged in by New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson. The ball shot off the deck and flew towards backward point, after catching the splice. Shahbaz Ahmed completed a fine catch, to send the Windies cricketer back to the pavilion. Skipper KL Rahul had completed his half-century off the previous delivery, bringing an end to the excitement surrounding the milestone. Pooran has now recorded the fourth duck in his last six innings.

He joins the list of other batsmen to have recorded four ducks in an IPL season, with Pooran being the fifth addition to the list. Herschelle Gibbs was the first cricketer to join the charts having registered the same in 2009. Mithun Manhas was added in 2011, with Manish Pandey joining the list soon after in 2012. Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Shikhar Dhawan was the latest addition to the list before Pooran, joining the tally in 2020.

Poor performance by Harshal Patel

The Windies cricketer has now recorded a 0 ball duck, 1 ball duck, 2 ball duck and 3 ball duck in the ongoing IPL 2021. Fans have called for the inclusion of Dawid Malan in the PBKS lineup, with the English batsman seen warming the sidelines so far.

The game further witnessed Harshal Patel, who is the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2021 going wicketless in an innings. He conceded 53 runs, which is certainly an area of concern for RCB fans considering the absence of a bowler capable of bowling in the death, if Harshal starts leaking runs.

Pooran has scored just 28 runs in seven matches of IPL 2021 so far, accumulating the tally at an average of 4.66. The Windies cricketer has further maintained a strike rate of 84.84, which is way lesser in comparison to the expectations from a player of his calibre. The batsman has hit just two boundaries and a six. It will be interesting to see if succeeds in making a comeback if given an opportunity.
