Kolkata Knight Riders snapped their four-game losing streak in IPL 2021 with a five-wicket win against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. Punjab Kings, who won against Mumbai Indians in the previous match, was blown away by the discipline of the Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers. Punjab Kings started confidently but the batting failed as they were reduced to 98/8 in the 19th over. Some big hits from Chris Jordan got the team to 123/9.

With the ball, Punjab Kings created pressure but Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi helped Kolkata Knight Riders to victory. Once again, it was inconsistency in either the batting or the bowling that saw Punjab Kings on the wrong side of the result. Even KL Rahul, the Punjab Kings skipper, was at a loss of words to pinpoint the reasons for the loss.

“Don’t know what to say. We should have adapted better. We could have applied a lot more with the bat. Expect the boys to be smarter. Some soft dismissals have cost us the game. Kept a little up-down. Was tough to assess what are the high-risk shots here. We need to keep our heads higher and keep trying,” Rahul said.

Not enough runs

Punjab Kings yet again put on a poor display with the bat. Out of the six games, this was the third time that they scored in the range of 105-125. The inconsistency in the batting is something that Chris Jordan, who smashed 30 off 18 balls, pointed out in the post-match press conference.

“We did put a little bit of pressure on KKR but probably did not have enough runs. The way forward is to do the things that we have been doing good. We are very close to putting in a perfect game. The team has done a decent job with the bat and with the ball,” Jordan said.

Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Delhi Capitals on April 29. Punjab Kings will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 30.
