Karun Nair made his Test debut for India against England in November 2016 and announced his arrival with a triple tonne in his first-ever Test series. By attaining the feat, Nair also made a record and became the quickest batsman in Test cricket history to register a maiden triple century in terms of matches played. Since March 2017, Nair has not been a member of the national squad as the selection committee has overlooked him. He has only appeared in eight international games, including six Tests and two One Day Internationals. Meanwhile, Karun’s previous ODI appearance was in June 2016.

Karun Nair expressed his earnest wish to play Test cricket again in an impassioned social media post. Some believe his remark reflects the Indian selectors’ decision to give him an opportunity in the forthcoming Test series against Bangladesh. However, Nair’s tweet came on the same day that the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) released the squads for the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 matches against Services and Pondicherry. Apart from Virender Sehwag, Karun Nair is the only Indian hitter to have scored a triple century in red-ball cricket. In December 2016, he hit an undefeated 303 in the fifth and final Test against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

He has not played for Karnataka for a while

The 31-year-old, who was left out of this year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy squads, was left out of the Ranji Trophy team for the first two games. Karun Nair is undoubtedly a potential player, and with this promising and ambitious tweet, he has stated that all he needs is one chance to prove that he still has a lot of cricket left in him. Nair, India’s second triple centurion in Test cricket, has not played a competitive match at the senior level since August of this year, and his most recent appearance was for Mysuru in the Karnataka Premier League.
