Mumbai Indians, the five-time IPL champions had their worst season in the history of the elite Indian T20 event in IPL 2022. Despite being one of the tournament’s finest teams, Mumbai finished last in the points standings. MI only won four matches in 14 Tata IPL 2022 appearances. Their terrible tournament performance ruined their campaign. To make matters worse, Mumbai lost eight consecutive games, setting a record for the most consecutive defeats faced at the start of the season. In light of this, we look at the three players that the franchise may release ahead of IPL 2023.

Fabian Allen

Fabian Allen, a West Indian all-rounder, was a deal that did not go as planned by the Mumbai Indians. The spinner only had one chance, taking one wicket and conceding 46 runs at an economy rate of 11.50. Given the dearth of opportunities in the last season, the all-rounder may feel hard done by. With the emergence of Dewald Brewis and Tristan Stubbs, the franchise may not need Allen for the new season.

Kieron Pollard

Despite his poor performance, Mumbai awarded Pollard a longer run in the IPL 2022. The Trinidadian cricketer scored 144 runs in 11 innings of the Tata IPL 2022 with a strike rate of 110, which is insufficient for his role. Pollard was signed by the Mumbai Indians for INR 6 crores ahead of the Tata IPL 2022. The franchise may decide to release him and then repurchase him at a lower rate or may not bid for him at all because now they have Tim David.

Tymal Mills

Tymal Mills was horrible in his comeback IPL season, despite high expectations. Mills, who was purchased by MI for Rs 1.50 crore, took 6 wickets in 5 matches but bowled at an economy rate of 11.18. Even if a bowler is a death-over specialist, an economy rate of more than 10 is not acceptable. Mills struggled to control the flow of runs, and as a result, he only played in 5 matches. He could be one of the players MI releases before the mini-auction. MI might look at other overseas pace bowling options.
