The IPL 2024 Auction kicked off with anticipation and fervor at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, marking the commencement of a captivating selection process for the league’s upcoming season. Scheduled to start at 11:30 PM local time (1:00 PM IST), the auction brings forth a pool of 332 players vying for coveted spots across the 10 franchises. Among them, a maximum of 77 slots are up for grabs, featuring 30 overseas players and 214 Indian talents. Notably, this roster includes a blend of 116 capped players and 214 uncapped prospects, encompassing two players from Associate nations.

The first phase of the auction unveils two pivotal sets of Capped Batters and Capped All-Rounders. This strategic division amplifies the focus on these specific player categories, setting the stage for intense bidding wars and strategic acquisitions. The players within these sets will undergo a random selection process, adding an element of unpredictability to their auction trajectory. In the capped batters set, the bidding war saw some interesting acquisitions and surprises. England’s Harry Brook sparked early interest, fetching a commendable INR 4 crore as he joined the Delhi Capitals. Meanwhile, Travis Head, the Australian stalwart, emerged as a hot property, securing a significant INR 6.80 crore deal with the SunRisers Hyderabad.

However, not all players found immediate takers. Indian talents Karun Nair and Manish Pandey, along with Rilee Rossouw and Steve Smith from international shores, remained unsold in the initial rounds, setting the stage for potential bidding resurgences later in the auction.
