Kumar Kushagra, the talented batsman from Jharkhand has created ripples in this year's IPL auction after earning a price tag of 7.2 cr.
In the 2024 auction, many players have got higher prices than expected. On one hand, where we saw whopping prices for Pat Cummins there was also Mitchell Starc as well who became the most expensive player in history. However, amidst all this monetary commotion, many domestic players have also made a name for themselves in the likes of Chetan Sakaria.
Likely, Delhi Capitals has spent Rs 7.20 crore on a 19-year-old unnamed player, Kumar Kushagra from domestic circuits of Jharkhand. The Capitals have bought Kushagra by paying a whopping price against his base price of 20 lakhs. This price tag comes at the back of Kushagra’s smashing performance for the Under-19 Team India. Domestically, Kumar has shown promising performances in both the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Moreover, he is also a handy wicket-keeper and will be an asset for the Capitals.

Chennai Super Kings made the first bid on him. After this Gujarat Titans entered the game. There was a brief fight between Gujarat and Chennai. Chennai made the last bid of Rs 60 lakh. After this Delhi Capitals started bidding. The contest between Delhi and Gujarat continued till the end. Gujarat bid up to Rs 7 crore. But in the end, Delhi won. Subsequently, Delhi bought him for Rs 7.20 crore.
Kushagra made his debut in first-class while playing against Delhi. Moreover, he played his first first-class match for Jharkhand in February 2022. The first match in List A was played against Madhya Pradesh in February 2021. He played his first T0 match in November 2021. Kushagra has performed well for the Indian Under-19 team on many occasions. He has scored 700 runs in 23 List A matches. During this period, he scored 7 half-centuries and 868 runs in 13 first-class matches. Talking about the track record of Kumar in the T20s, he has scored 140 runs in 11 T20 matches.
