Chennai Super Kings, the four-time IPL champions, haven’t had the best of IPL 2022 as they would have hoped for. CSK’s inability to enter the playoffs in the 2022 IPL was only the league’s second in its 15-year history. After being dubbed “Dad’s Army” in 2018, CSK made a spectacular comeback in 2018, winning the title with an average age of 30 of its players. The whistle-podu army, on the other hand, had a nice combination of youthful and older players in the 2022 season but still failed to achieve the desired results. Ahead of the 2023 auctions, we look at the three players that the franchise may release. The auctions are reported to be held in the 3rd week of December.

Mitchell Santner

Last season, the CSK management failed to make full use of Mitchell Santner. They tried practically everything with him but couldn’t give him a proper role. In the first few games, he batted at number 3 or number 4. He was afterwards ordered to bat lower down. Santner was dropped when Moeen Ali became available. However, Santner was given a shot in the season’s last game. If he is not bringing value to the Chennai Super Kings, it is time for the team to let him go. He has mostly warmed the bench and with someone like Jadeja, they don’t need Santner.

Chris Jordan

With Dwyane Bravo nearing the end of his career, Chennai was searching for a bowling all-rounder to take his place. CSK bought Jordan as a like-for-like replacement for Bravo, but he was nothing short of a disaster for the club. Chris Jordan, England’s T20 specialist, was purchased for a hefty 3.60 crores by Chennai Super Kings. Jordan has had a horrible IPL season, with only two wickets in four innings. He is part of the English T20 WC team but he has not featured in any of the games for them.

Tushar Deshpande

The Chennai Super Kings signed Tushar Deshpande for a base price of 20 lakhs. Tushar was seen as a backup to Deepak Chahar, who was injured. Tushar played two opening games for CSK, picking up one wicket and allowing more than ten runs per over. Meanwhile, CSK gave Simarjeet Singh and Mukesh Choudhary the opportunity. With wicket-taking match-winning exploits, they both appeared to impress CSK Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. More than the performances, MSD was amazed by both the bowlers’ maturity and guts. With Deepak Chahar set to return Deshpande might be released.
